I am strong in the Lord

Where do you go for strength when you feel weak? Is spending time with the Lord the first or last thing on your mind when you feel run down, lost, exhausted or upset?

For many years, I would run to food with all of those feelings and reserved time with God for when I was feeling holy and squeaky clean. I had misunderstood who the Lord is and who He wants to be for us in our times of weakness and struggle.

When David was distressed, he strengthened himself in the Lord. He was not feeling strong at the time, nor did he probably feel like getting up and seeking God at that moment, but he was wise enough to know that it was his best option.

1 Samuel 30:6

And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.

It is totally fine and normal to feel weak and lost, but you don’t need to stay there. Let the Lord strengthen you in the power of His might.

Below are a few scriptures about HOW to strengthen ourselves in the Lord. In bold are the bits we get to do and in return God gives us strength!

Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones.

Isaiah 41:10

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Proverbs 15:30

The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and good news refreshes the bones.

Proverbs 14:30

A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.

Proverbs 16:24

Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body.

Isaiah 40:31

But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Ephesians 6:10

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

Psalm 28:7

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong

Exodus 15:2

The Lord is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father's God, and I will exalt him.
