Train of Thought
“Love the Lord your God… with every thought that is within you”
– Jesus (Matthew 22:37 TPT)
Have you ever been in a rush to get on the train and arriving at the right platform simply jumped on the waiting train only to find that as it pulls away from the station you boarded the wrong train? Then follows the grim, dawning revelation that you are going completely the wrong way and there's little you can do about it before the next stop, with precious time and money wasted.
It's the same with our train of thought. Be under no illusion: your thoughts take you places, literally. Are you choosing the train wisely?
If I do not make up my mind ahead of time that I am going to refuse to board the wrong train of thought, then I will end up at a place in my head where I do not want be, nor ever needed to be. Christine Caine said this: "One of the most important lessons I have discovered is that nothing is as powerful as a mind made up. A mind made up ahead of time has the power to control the way your day goes, the way your life goes. You have the power to control who you become, because you are literally what you think - whether you choose to learn how to consciously control that or not." Proverbs 23:7 says, 'For as a man thinks in his heart so is he' (AMP)
Repentance means to change our thinking and the direction of our lives back to God, allowing truth to set us free with divine destiny realised (John 8:30-32, Romans 12:2). How beautiful...and how crucial then for us to manage our minds? If we don't our minds will manage us. We're in a fight. Note the language Paul uses: "For although we live in the natural realm, we don’t wage a military campaign employing human weapons... We can demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One." (2 Corinthians 10:3-5 TPT) Take your thoughts prisoner or they will take you prisoner. And for that we need a sharp sword (Ephesians 6:17).
Paul continues elsewhere, "Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you... be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2, TPT, NKJV) A sanctified thought life is a kiss to God and a kiss from God.
This has been an ongoing fight for me in my journey from shame-filled to shame-free living, and it will likely for you as well. For example, negative thoughts about myself are not humble, they are proud - I'm arguing with God. If we disregard the destination board and jump on any train, we'll go anywhere. But if we carefully, even violently, choose the train we really want to be on, repenting of ungodly mindsets, we'll only go where God wants to take us - and that's what we want to learn to do.
