Train of Thought
I am a new creation
“Love the Lord your God… with every thought that is within you” – Jesus (Matthew 22:37 TPT)
Have you ever been in a rush to get on the train and arriving at the right platform simply jumped on the waiting train only to find that as it pulls away from the station you boarded the wrong train? Then follows the grim, dawning revelation that you are going completely the wrong way and there's little you can do about it before the next stop, with precious time and money wasted.
It's the same with our train of thought. Be under no illusion: your thoughts take you places, literally. Are you choosing the train wisely?
I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus
Do you ever feel that you are broken goods, beyond repair? God says we are brand new creations when we are born again in Christ- washed clean, sin separated as far as the east is from the west. Here are some scriptures that you can meditate on today regarding the mind boggling forgiveness Jesus paid for, FOR US!
I am an overcomer
Satan , the Accuser, loves to come along at every opportunity possible and whisper lies to try and throw us off course. The recent ones for me have been ‘you are not doing enough’, ‘you are not spiritually hungry enough’, ‘you are not holy enough’. If I listen and believe the lies I feel hopeless, despondent and tempted to hide my face from God. But kindly, the Holy Spirit reminds me of the truth. Jesus has done it all. He has done enough. He has done everything. God looks at me and sees the perfection of Jesus.
I am free from me
The other day I watched my brother in law crawl through the snow with my two year old nephew Benji and it taught me something profound about our Heavenly Father...
I am grateful
Eugene Peterson said that the essence of the spiritual life is “learning how to die”. “You start losing all your illusions, and you start being capable of true intimacy and love.”We have a problem. We want to have a vibrant spiritual life with all of God’s blessings … we just don’t want to get there “by way of death”, as Augustine said. Father Raniero was asked by Nicky Gumbel, “How do you grow in your walk with Christ?” He responded, “The ego must die, for Christ to live.”
I am winning the battle in my mind
Entitlement breeds envy, greed and restlessness. Gratitude waters the garden of our heart with wonder, joy and faith. The grass is not greener next door – it’s greener where we water it! Let us unwrap the gift of “today” with the childlike humility and awe that God’s gift deserves.
I am the head and not the tail
We are all in a spiritual battle and the battlefield is our minds. Our thoughts will meander constantly through life, encompassing difficult memories from the past, fears about the future, the opinions of others, messages from the media, the Church and much more. Our enemy’s strategy has not altered since he tempted Jesus in the wilderness – he tries to invade our thoughts and persuade us to doubt God’s word. He has no authority in our lives except that which we give him through our agreement.
Dr Caroline Leaf said this: “75% to 95% of the illnesses that plague us today are a direct result of our thought life. What we think about affects us physically and emotionally. It's an epidemic of toxic emotions. The average person has over 30,000 thoughts a day.
Car Journey Chaos
Do you ever feel like you are pushed around by an endless to-do list? Sometimes I feel like my days are led by this dictatorial and relentless piece of paper. The list is never finished; by the time the tasks are down to a few, a new list has sprung up on a different piece of paper, with a fresh supply of mountains to overcome or mundane tasks to fulfill.
Yesterday I made the biggest navigational driving error of my life to date, that caused us two hours extra on an already 4 hour journey, through the centre of london, at rush hour. How is this even possible?! Details at the bottom of the article, if you are interested in the logistics. A few years ago I took a wrong turn in the outback of Australia and had to turn around and drive about 45 minutes back in the direction we had just come. I thought that was bad, but this was worse. No kangaroos, no sunshine, just traffic, pollution and rush hour aggression! Lord preserve us!
